Older Persons Need To Take Care This Summer

At Capstone Medical Associates, we provide geriatric care to many of the older folks living in Lebanon PA, Palmyra and surrounding areas. We make clear to these patients that they need to take care in hot weather, so as to not cause injuries or problems. Here are the tips we give our elderly patients:

  • Avoid excessive sunlight
    No matter your age, you should always use the proper amount of sunscreen. Protective clothing is also encouraged, as is abstaining from the sun at its peak. Staying indoors during these hot times is a good precaution.
  • Drink plenty of fluids
    It’s important to drink plenty of water and other fluids to maintain proper hydration, otherwise, you could become dehydrated.
  • Don’t touch poisonous plants
    Poisonous plants wreak their own sort of havoc on seniors. If you should touch poison ivy or any other plants, early treatment will help avoid agony and secondary infection.
  • Take care in the outdoors
    You need to be aware that although you might have took part in a sport or hobby, you may be susceptible to increased injury. Take care when in cold water, as this can increase cardiac problems.
  • Wear sunglasses with high UV filters
    Ultraviolet rays can increase the risk of cataract formation. It’s important to take care of your eyes with 100% UV filters.
